Sanctuary was recognized as a right granted specifically to criminals as an extension of Christ’s mercy. According to contemporary English law, no one could be forcibly removed from the sanctuary of a church – not even a criminal or an illegal immigrant. Not a lot has changed really I still seek refuge in my God even though I am a sinner and belong to a Kingdom I am not living in, a culture I don’t fully understand, and living a life that is alien to my beliefs, morality and thinking. We need to find our safe space in God and rest a while in His arms.
