PROMISE 6 :Colossians 1:12-13

PROMISE 6
I delivered you from darkness into the
kingdom of My beloved Son.
Colossians 1:12-13

God as my mid-wife, I was born again from a place of darkness into the light of Christ, from the confines of this world to the freedom I now have in Jesus, from a state of living to being alive in the Holy Spirit. A new life, a new hope. Praise His wonderful name my deliver.

Colossians 1:12-13 is a powerful passage that speaks to the transformative work of God in the lives of believers. Let’s explore its background and meaning:

Background

The Epistle to the Colossians was written by the Apostle Paul while he was imprisoned in Rome, around 60-62 AD. He wrote this letter to address certain heretical teachings that had emerged in the church at Colossae, emphasizing the supremacy and sufficiency of Christ[1].

Exegesis

The verses in question state:

“Giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of the saints in light. He has delivered us from the domain of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of his beloved Son”[2].

This passage highlights several key theological concepts:

  1. Thanksgiving: Paul begins by emphasizing gratitude to God the Father.
  2. Qualification: God has made believers fit or worthy to partake in the inheritance of the saints.
  3. Deliverance: God has rescued believers from the power of darkness.
  4. Transfer: Believers have been moved from one realm (darkness) to another (the kingdom of Christ)[1].

Significance

This promise encapsulates the essence of salvation. It speaks to the radical change that occurs when a person comes to faith in Christ. The imagery of being transferred from darkness to light is powerful, indicating a complete change in spiritual status and allegiance[1].

Related Verses

Several other passages in Scripture echo this theme:

  1. “For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light” (Ephesians 5:8)[2].
  2. “But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light” (1 Peter 2:9)[2].
  3. “The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light; those who dwelt in a land of deep darkness, on them has light shone” (Isaiah 9:2)[2].

These verses reinforce the idea of a dramatic spiritual transformation, from a state of spiritual blindness and bondage to one of enlightenment and freedom in Christ. This promise offers hope and assurance to believers, reminding them of their new identity and position in Christ[1].
