PROMISE 9
Since you are in Christ, I have made you an
heir of all My promises. Galatians 3:29
The Scriptures contain a grand total of 8,810 promises all of which apply to the lives of those who believe. I’m only dealing with 365 of them over the year, it would take a little over 24 years to bring one each morning but what struck me is that all of them are for all His children. Unlike us who pick and choose the Scriptures and leave out the requests made to us by God that we don’t like or don’t think apply to our generation which we can all do on a daily basis, what if God did the same with His promises, what if God picked and chose according to how He felt, what if the promise of forgiveness and eternal life got suspended because it no longer fitted with God’s life choices. Just a thought.
Background
In Galatians 3, Paul is addressing a key issue for the early church: the unity of believers in Christ, regardless of their background. Many in the church at Galatia were struggling with the role of Jewish law versus faith in Jesus as the foundation for a relationship with God. Paul clarifies that anyone who has faith in Jesus—Jew or Gentile, slave or free—is a child of Abraham and an heir to the promises God made to him. This promise isn’t limited by heritage or law; it is freely given to all who are “in Christ.”
Exegesis
To be “in Christ” is to belong fully to Him, sharing in His life, His death, and His resurrection. Paul reminds the Galatians that this relationship with Christ is transformative, making believers part of God’s family and inheritors of His promises. Being an heir means we are entitled to everything God has promised to His people—not because of our own merit, but because we are united with Jesus.
Imagine being given an inheritance you could never earn or deserve. This is the nature of God’s promises to those who are in Christ. These promises cover every aspect of life—protection, provision, forgiveness, guidance, peace, and eternal life. When we say we’re “heirs,” it’s not just a legal status; it’s a living, active reality where God continually fulfills His promises in our lives. These promises aren’t conditional on His mood or external factors; they’re rooted in His unchanging faithfulness and love.
It’s a comforting thought that God doesn’t “pick and choose” which promises to fulfill based on His preferences, as we might when reading Scripture. His faithfulness means that He keeps every promise without fail. We don’t have to worry that one day forgiveness, grace, or hope might be withheld. God’s promises are steadfast because they are bound to His character, and He honors each one for all His children.

- Every promise God has made finds its fulfillment in Jesus, affirming that believers can trust in all of them without reservation.
- Romans 8:17 – “Now if we are children, then we are heirs—heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we may also share in his glory.”

- Ephesians 1:13-14 – “And you also were included in Christ when you heard the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation. Summary
In Galatians 3:29, God reminds us that as believers in Christ, we’re heirs to all His promises, secure and unbreakable. He doesn’t waver or pick and choose based on passing circumstances. Every promise is for His children, fulfilled by His unfailing character and His Spirit within us. Through Christ, we don’t just receive blessings—we step into a covenant where every promise God has made belongs to us as His beloved family. We can rely on His faithfulness, confident that all He has promised will be ours.
